The problem

The customer needed a CubeSat test platform that could survive real-world testing while staying inside the standard 1U CubeSat size and mass limits.

Constraints

Fixed 1U external dimensions, a tight mass budget, enough rigidity to mean something in testing, and room for future modules.

Development approach

Advised on material choice and printing, then produced the customer's frame design in PETG-rCF08 — light, stiff and dimensionally stable — and assembled the Raspberry Pi, camera module and supporting hardware.

A CubeSat frame has to hit a hard spec: fixed external dimensions, a tight mass budget, and enough rigidity to mean something once testing starts.

The customer supplied the design. We advised on material and printing, then produced it in PETG-rCF08 — a recycled carbon-fibre PETG that’s light, strong and holds tight dimensional tolerances. Every electronic component, from the Raspberry Pi to the camera module, dropped into place on the first build, and the frame still leaves room for more modules, HATs and sensors.

Built, assembled and shipped inside 24 hours.

The Raspberry Pi and ports seated in the frame, with room left for added HATs, sensors and modules.

Validation

Every electronic component seated on the first build, with clearance left for added HATs, sensors and modules.

The outcome

A single test platform, assembled and shipped in 24 hours, with room to grow.
