Small-Batch Projects & Manufacturing Handoff

Prepare a design for supplier discussion and a possible small batch. 9OneFour's current offer is scoped design and manufacturing preparation.

9OneFour previously promoted general small-batch production. The current studio offer centers on developing the design and preparing it for an appropriate fabrication partner. This is not an offer to manufacture, assemble or fulfill a production batch in-house.

Get the design ready for a supplier conversation

Useful preparation may include CAD revisions, a component list, drawings for important interfaces and a clear record of material, finish and quantity requirements. The project scope identifies which of these are needed and who will review them.

Prototype feedback can help identify changes before a production quote. A prototype review and acceptance of a production batch are separate steps; each needs its own criteria.

Make the handoff specific

  • Identify the design revision to be quoted.
  • Explain how the part will be used and what interfaces matter.
  • State the requested quantity and any likely variants.
  • Separate requirements from preferences for material and finish.
  • Discuss samples, inspection, packaging and schedule directly with the fabrication supplier.

9OneFour can prepare handoff files and help identify an appropriate fabrication partner when that is part of the agreed project. Supplier capacity, commercial terms and production acceptance remain to be confirmed.

Plan before committing to a run

The batch planning guide covers the questions to resolve between a design file and a supplier order. If the design itself needs work, start a project and describe the product, current files and intended use.
