CAD & redesign

CAD Reconstruction & Reverse Modeling

Develop editable CAD from measurements, scans, drawings and existing parts, with fitment, design changes and handoff defined for your project.

An existing part can be the starting point for a new design. 9OneFour uses measurements, scan references, drawings and practical constraints to recreate, modify or improve components and assemblies in CAD.

Rebuild the design intent

Copying the surface of a worn or broken part can also copy its damage. Reconstruction starts by identifying what needs to match, what is uncertain and what should change. Mating parts and reference dimensions help distinguish the original design from wear, deformation or a previous repair.

The work may include rebuilding component geometry, adjusting an interface, developing missing features or preparing an assembly for further iteration. The agreed scope defines the deliverables, which may include CAD exchange files, native design files or drawings as appropriate to the project.

From reference to review

  1. Understand the purpose. What does the part do, where does it fit and why does it need to change?
  2. Review the evidence. Use the available scan, dimensions, physical sample and drawings to identify gaps.
  3. Develop the model. Rebuild the relevant geometry and document the design decisions.
  4. Review fit and handoff. Agree any physical checks, prototype steps and supplier documentation before treating the design as ready for its next use.

A scan is a starting point

A mesh does not automatically become editable feature-based CAD. Reconstruction and redesign are distinct work with their own scope. If you only need scanning and an STL/OBJ mesh, use ScanMyPart.

The scan-to-CAD guide explains how the stages connect. For an actual project, share photos, existing files and the result you need through the project inquiry form.
